What is a Doula?

"Doula" is a Greek word which today is used to describe a woman who "mothers the new mother". A doula may provide encouragement and support during birth or during the postpartum period. Mother & Baby Moon provides postpartum doula services.

What type of postpartum training did you receive?

My role as mother to three children was my initial training! Becoming "Grammy" to four grandbabies, including twins, reintroduced me to the wonderful world of babies and supporting new mothers and families.

Although there are no state or federal regulations to practice as a doula, I chose to become a CAPPA Certified Postpartum Doula www.cappa.net with additional training through Mother & Baby Matters in Reston, VA. www.motherandbabymatters.com. As a professional educator for 30+ years, I hold a BA and Masters in Teaching. In addition, I am educated in infant and child development and am CPR and First Aid certified.
